Parish Councils Demonstrate Support of UHN Federal Recognition Efforts

Posted by United Houma Nation on Sunday, July 27, 2014

It was an honor and pleasure to represent our citizens this week as our Tribal Council sought the support of the Parish Council's where our citizens reside.  In both Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes this week the Parish Councils passed resolutions in support of the UHN's federal recognition efforts by unanimous seconds.  Each Council during their discussions, shared their acknowledgement and recognition of the rich culture the Tribe brings to the parishes.

See the link to the Houma Courier article that ran this week HERE.

As the proposed changes to the Bureau of Indian Affairs is viewed by tribal leaders as a good change, tribal leaders also view it as a sign that the UHN federal acknowledgement efforts will begin to see movement upon finalization.  Although citizens should be cautioned to continue to have patience as the comment period has been extended an additional 60 days.  Tribal leaders are preparing for next steps should the changes become final.

Please know we will keep you updated as this effort moves forward to ensure you are able to participate and assist in these efforts.
