Notice of Election to Amend the Constitution of the United Houma Nation
The United Houma Nation Election Board gives NOTICE that an election is to be held to amend the constitution of the United Houma Nation, Article VI, Section 1(e), which states “The Principal Chief shall be limited to two consecutive terms in office”. The election is called to repeal the term limits for the Office of Principal Chief of the United Houma Nation.
The election shall occur on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The election board has designated the following polling places within the tribes voting districts. The week before the election, (November 28, 2009) the ballot will be posted at these voting places:

Election Deadlines:
November 5, 2009 Deadline for tribal citizens to register to vote. A tribal citizen not registered to vote by this date will be ineligible to vote in the election.
November 5, 2009 Absentee ballots are made available upon request at the UHN Main Office.
November 28, 2009 Polling places and sample ballots will be posted at tribal offices.
December 4, 2009 All absentee ballots must be received at the UHN Main Office in Golden Meadow by this date no later than 4:00 P.M., Central Standard Time. A ballot received after such date and time will not be counted in the election.
December 5, 2009 Election Day.
Voting Requirements:
All registered tribal voters who have registered prior to November 5, 2009, are eligible to vote in the election. Voters have two voting options for this election:
1) Absentee ballot voting from November 5, 2009 – December 4, 2009.
2) Secret ballot voting at their designated polling place on December 5, 2009, from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Absentee Voting
Eligible voters interested in voting early or who expect to be absent from their voting district or who expects to be physically unable to go to the polling place on such a day, may request in writing, by phone or in person an absentee ballot package from the UNH Main Office in Golden Meadow. This package will include the absentee ballot, return envelopes, and instructions for completing an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots are secret ballots. These packages will be available from November 5, 2009- December 4, 2009.
Voting on Election Day
Registered voters voting on Election Day must do so at their designated polling place. The Board will mail notice to all registered voters of their designated polling place. All polling places shall be open from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on the day of the election. All voters must show their tribal voter ID and sign a tribal register voter log in order to vote at the polls. A secret ballot will be given after the election supervisors have verified eligibility to vote.

_______ YES, I vote to amend the constitution of the United Houma Nation, Article VI Section 1 (e) to repeal the term limits for the Office of Principal Chief of the United Houma Nation.(A yes vote will allow the principal chief to serve more than two consecutive terms in office.)
_______ NO, I vote to not amend the constitution of the United Houma Nation Article VI Section 1 (e). The Principal Chief shall be limited to two consecutive terms in office. (A no vote will prevent the principal chief from serving more than two consecutive terms in office.)
