Maryal Dion-Mewherter, daughter of Josephine Annie S. Dion & Past-Chief Thomas Dion (1960 & 70’s), born and raised down the Bayou, Dulac; she presently lives in Schriever, married to Thomas Mewherter of Erie, Pennsylvania, an Educator with the Louisiana Technical Community College system; has 3 children, Shawn E. Parfait, Tiffany Parfait-Reed, and Heather Parfait, and raising 2 great-nieces, Alura and Alayna Spaulding.
Maryal was sworn into the Tribal Council July 2010, graduated from Nicholls State University December 2005 with an Associate of Science degree in Legal Studies, presently enrolled at Post University studying for a Bachelors of Science in Legal Studies program, and plans to attend law school soon after graduation 2012. She also has an array of experience in non-profit organizations extended to case management, including but not limited to a wide range of resource knowledge from socioeconomics, housing programs, to people with disabilities, government, healthcare, and environmental issues. Maryal is presently employed with BISCO (Bayou Interfaith Shared Community Organizing) as an Advocate for community issues with covenant churches and communities in Lafourche and Terrebonne to empower people through advocacy, training and leadership and speaks French fluently.
