Michael T. Mayheart Dardar

 

 

Biography

 

Michael Raymond Dardar Sr.,“T. Mayheart” was born on the 15th of January, 1962, in Golden Meadow, Louisiana. He is the son of Raymond Mayheart Dardar. Michael spent childhood and adolescent years trawling and trapping with his father. He eventually graduated from high school with a love for history. Later, Michael worked as crane operator, diesel mechanic, and tankerman.

 

Michael has been a member of the UHN Tribal Council since 1992. He was inspired to Houma community service by the examples of his grandfather Jean Dardar and his aunt Helen Gindrat, who currently serves on the council. Michael is the current Vice-Principal Chief and appointed tribal historian.

 

Through public talks and writings Michael continues to be an outspoken advocate of Houma culture and political sovereignty.
