Maryal Mewherter- Treasurer
Maryal Dion-Mewherter, a recent graduate of Post University, earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Legal Studies. She previously worked with BISCO, a 501(c)(3), non-profit advocacy organization, (Bayou Interfaith Shared Community Organizing) in Thibodaux, LA, as a Community Advocate/Community Health Worker. She works in communities of South Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, and Jefferson (Grand Isle); or where communities are negatively impacted by disasters. She also has experience in other areas of non-profit organization such as outreach, case management, community based resources and referral network, housing programs, healthcare, disability, environmental issues and fund raising.
Ms. Mewherter serves as Tribal Council Representative in District 6, for United Houma Nation Indian Tribe, which encompasses the area of Houma north of the Intracoastal Canal, Gibson, Gray and Schriever. In July 2015, she was elected by her peers on the Tribal Council to the Office of Treasurer and Chairs the Budget & Finance Committee.
