With over 17,000 tribal citizens living around the world, the UHN website is a crucial tool to maintain connections with tribal citizens as well as our friends. Unfortunately due to the changes with the platform that the current site is built upon, a whole new site is needed as the current one will stop functioning by the end of the year. Current quotes place a complete re-write and maintenance of a new UHN site to be $5,000. UHN staff recognizing the important function of the site has taken on the task of raising the initial $5,000 needed to make this transition. Earlier today, the first fundraising event was held with an Indian Taco and grilled corn on the cob lunch sale. As of the close of business yesterday nearly 200 meals were pre-ordered!
With the skies opening up and a downpour ensuing beginning at 10:20 am through 12:15 pm, the staff continued to fry and grill under tents despite the rain. Additionally due to the overwhelming response from the community, staff had to turn away walk-in sales as early as noon because they could not keep up with walk-ins and filling the pre-orders. To the left is the current gross proceeds raised as of today towards this effort with this one small event. Thank you to all who helped with coordinating and organizing the event as well as the businesses and residents who supported this effort and bought lunches. We could not do this without you!
The next lunch fundraiser will be a Shrimp Boil Plate Lunch on Friday, September 21st. This is a pre-sale event ONLY. Tickets are $12 in advance and must be purchased by September 18th. Also in October the staff will be hosting a second Indian Taco and Grilled Corn sale. The date will be announced following the Shrimp Boil.
Anyone looking to purchase tickets for the Shrimp Boil can call the UHN Houma Office at (985)223-3093 for more information. Free delivery is available within 15 miles of the UHN Houma Office for orders of 6 or more.
