We are excited to announce that KUHN 88.9FM will be returning to online streaming beginning Monday, July 25 with Ms. Gloria Fonseca behind the microphone from 7am to noon Monday through Friday. KUHN is the noncommercial, educational radio station under the umbrella of the United Houma Nation. Currently its broadcast range is approximately 15 miles in circumference from the Golden Meadow location. The station serves as a means to educate and inform the tribal community as well as a much needed opportunity to communicate with tribal citizens immediately before and after disasters. Tribal Councilman, Donny Verdin from Galliano is pleased to see the entire tribal community receive the same opportunity to access the station and sees it as a much needed tool to ensure the community is informed and has a voice. "Growing programming will take time and the help of many volunteers; however, I am so honored to have Ms. Gloria on staff to mentor and guide us in that process," stated Councilman Verdin. ..
The UHN is proud to announce that its collaborative with Mercy Family Center is ready to launch the How's Your 5? Community Resilience and Public Health Campaign. Tribal citizens can learn more about this initiative by attending any Wellness event. Please remember the UHN Wellness Center is open every Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm for all tribal citizens and their spouses. The Center's location is 991 Grand Caillou Road, Bldg #3, Houma, LA 70363. ..
The UHN is searching for dedicated and committed volunteers for Fundraising & Events! We have at least 4 ongoing annual events that cannot be successful without the help of volunteers. Additionally in order to grow and expand programs and services, additional fundraising efforts are needed. The UHN is truly blessed with the hardest working and talented tribal citizens and supporters around. We'd like to ask that you share your love for your Tribe and your fellow tribal members by volunteering. We NEED you!..
From Saturday afternoon until Friday, a group of 10 tribal women will be exploring as a group the historical sites and areas of significance for the UHN over the last 300+ years from Angola, Louisiana to Bayou Terrebonne. As a group they will be connecting to our tribal roots while as individuals they will be exploring what does it mean to be a healthy Houma woman.
