One Nation Against Diabetes Win's the Votes

Posted by United Houma Nation on Sunday, June 22, 2014

Earlier in the week, the United Houma Nation Vocational Rehabilitation Program announced that the 2014 Celebrating ABILITIES powwow will be dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes management and prevention.  As the UHN experiences such high rates of this complicated condition (nearly 1 in 4 households), the staff wanted to ensure there was an opportunity to have tribal citizens and supporters weigh in on the issue.

From Wednesday to Friday, an electronic vote took place where individuals could recommend the event theme they most identified with and would like to see.  With 86 votes cast, the theme selected was "One Nation Against Diabetes."  This theme earned 50% of the votes.  Other themes under consideration were "Healthy Living with Diabtes," "From Complications to Celebration...Living with Diabetes," and "Diabetes Doesn't Have to Be Complicated."

We would like to thank everyone for taking the time to vote and share your voice with us.  The flyer is now ready and available for download.  Click HERE for more powwow details.
