KUHN to Begin Streaming July 25th with Ms. Gloria Fonseca Joining the Team

Posted by United Houma Nation on Wednesday, July 20, 2016

We are excited to announce that KUHN 88.9FM will be returning to online streaming beginning Monday, July 25 with Ms. Gloria Fonseca behind the microphone from 7am to noon Monday through Friday.  KUHN is the noncommercial, educational radio station under the umbrella of the United Houma Nation.  Currently its broadcast range is approximately 15 miles in circumference from the Golden Meadow location.  The station serves as a means to educate and inform the tribal community as well as a much needed opportunity to communicate with tribal citizens immediately before and after disasters.  Tribal Councilman, Donny Verdin from Galliano is pleased to see the entire tribal community receive the same opportunity to access the station and sees it as a much needed tool to ensure the community is informed and has a voice.  "Growing programming will take time and the help of many volunteers; however, I am so honored to have Ms. Gloria on staff to mentor and guide us in that process," stated Councilman Verdin.

The first official formal live programming change will be to focus on preserving the Houma French language.  Ms. Gloria Fonseca will lead that charge every Monday through Friday from 7am to 10:00am with a traditional all French Program.  Ms. Gloria, a UHN tribal citizen and local to the South Lafourche area, has over 9 years of experience in broadcasting.  With French being her first language she is excited to resume what was initially her first jobs and love in radio - French Programming.  Recognizing the importance of our Houma French language, we will be repeating the morning show in the evening from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.

Also for all you Gloria Fonseca fans, she will be staying on from 10am to Noon to host the "All Louisiana Request Line" - all Louisiana artists at your request.  KUHN will continue to operate 24 hours a day with Cajun, Zydeco and Swamp Pop music from all your favorites between the new programming and gospel music will continue to play all day Sunday.
