Employment Focus of 2015 Powwow

Posted by United Houma Nation on Monday, January 26, 2015

"Disability is a natural part of the human experience and in no way diminishes the rights of individuals.(Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended)"  The core of vocational rehabilitation services is to assist individuals with disabilities in the pursuit of meaningful careers.  This year's Celebrating ABILITIES Powwow, scheduled for September 19 & 20, 2015, is raising awareness for the employment of individuals with disabilities, who have the highest rate of unemployment nationally.

The powwow is a celebration of individuals who despite the statistics achieve independence for themselves and their families through work.  We are asking for your help in developing the theme for this year's powwow that will be used in all of the events promotional efforts such as flyers, t-shirts, programs, posters, etc.

As one in three people will experience a disabling condition in their lifetime, you yourself may be an individual living with a disability or very likely know one if not more individuals with disabilities.  We are asking for your help and creativity in honoring the importance work plays in our lives.  Use the form below to share your ideas.
