Posted by United Houma Nation on Sunday, May 04, 2014

April 4th was the qualifying deadline for individuals interested in seeking candidacy for the position of Principal Chief.  Current Principal Chief Thomas Dardar, Jr. ran unopposed.  The election board has reviewed the qualifying packet and ensured that no other applicants were received.  Consequently, Thomas Dardar, Jr. has been certified with no opposition and will begin his second term as the Principal Chief of the United Houma Nation.

The official swearing in and beginning of Mr. Dardar's second 4 year term will be on Saturday, June 21, 2014.  More details regarding the swearing in will be announced closer to the date.  This is the second and final term for Mr. Dardar as this position is term limited.

The Principal Chief position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Tribe and chairs the Tribal Council.  During his first term as Principal Chief, the Tribe has grown to add the Saktce-Ho'ma Opportunity Fund, the election of a tribal wide youth council in 2013 and the collaboration with the French towards the development of a UHN Cultural Center.  Mr. Dardar intends his next four years to continue this growth and focus on creating more opportunities to help tribal citizens prosper and become involved in tribal activities.
