Posted by United Houma Nation on Sunday, June 08, 2014

For the second year in a row, recent Jewel Sumner High School graduate, Derrick Chaisson, was state champion in the bare back riding category during the recent Louisiana High School Rodeo Association Championship Competition.  Derrick tied with Cody Goode to share the title.  He is the only American Indian to qualify for nationals, and he is the son of Rosalee and Will Chaisson natives of Point aux Chene and current residents of Kentwood, Louisiana.

The National High School Rodeo Championship will be in Wyoming from July 13-19th.  This year is Derrick's final year to participate in the high school category as he received a full rodeo scholarship to Panola College in Cathage, TX.

Congratulations Derrick!
